August 2006 Artistry Tips and Tricks

Topics Covered

The August 2006 issue of Artistry Tips and Tricks features
step-by-step tutorials for choosing colors when turning
a photo into a painting.

The information in this issue is part of the art concepts
discussion in Karen Sperling's Artistry Retreats.

Photographers don't always realize that they need to know
the art concepts in addition to the Painter steps when
turning a photo into a painting in Painter, that is, until
they find out what the art concepts are, and they find
themselves painting in the Artistry Retreats!

This issue is compatible with Corel Painter versions IX, IX.5 and X.

Topics covered in this issue include:

*How to know when to use the colors in the photo
*How to know when to choose your own colors
*How to add colors if the photo is black and white
*How to use a color wheel
*How to choose a color scheme
*Examples of color schemes to use right away
*How to paint a portrait
*How to use Painter's shortcuts
*How to use Painter's brushes
*Start-to-finish workflow steps
*How to work with clones and Tracing Paper

Found August 2006 Helpful

Dear Karen,

Just a note to say how very helpful the August 2006 edition of
Artistry Tips & Tricks is.

Although I am still tending to use cloning from photos rather
than painting directly (hopefully that will come later!), I have
been wanting to very much (a) simplify images to render them
more painterly, and (b) work out how to introduce specific colour
schemes rather than using the multitude numbers of colours that
show up in a photograph.

Your latest issue of Artistry Tips and Tricks fits the bill perfectly,
and, additionally gives some information on a painter's approach to
colour, light and shade.

More, please!!!
