Wil Massenburg

Yorktown, VA-based artist Wil Massenburg was invited to career day at a local school to speak with the children about art. He took this photo of the teacher with his digital camera and turned it into a painting in Painter.

"I deleted the background because it was just ugly," Wil says. "I used Karen Sperling's techniques for the portrait."

Wil, who is a cartoonist/illustrator for children, had always wanted to paint portraits.

"I wanted to paint, but never had the money to purchase all of the expensive materials such as oil paints, canvas, brushes, etc." says Wil.

Enter Corel Painter and the Artistry Painting for Photographers Retreats.

"I discovered Painted and the wonderful Artistry Painting for Photographers Retreat classes taught by Karen Sperling, who wrote the manuals for the early versions of Painter. I have always wanted to meet 'The Goddess Of Painter' because she was the only one in the early days teaching the program to artists like myself with her Artistry newsletter."

Wil is looking forward to offering his Painter portraits as a business. "I hope to make some extra money doing this for others, thanks to Karen and her great class!"
