Artistry Individual Lessons

Taught by Karen Sperling, the original Painter expert

Taking classes is good for some, for others, one-on-one instruction is much better.

The benefit of the class is that you get to meet other people.

The benefit of individual instruction is that you get to learn at your own pace.

Karen Sperling offers individual instruction in two forms.

The first is one-on-one training in person, where you learn the steps for painting photos in Corel Painter and Adobe Photoshop.

The other is the Artistry Feedback, where you can find out what works and what needs improvement in your own photos and paintings.

Review

I was thoroughly impressed with how our 4 hours [of individual training] went.
Karen's suggestion that I review her Artistry Tips & Tricks newsletter back issues was perfect.
We had never met and we came from diverse backgrounds (Karen is a technical writer & artist and I’m an engineer).
The newsletters allowed me to determine what we could possibly discuss in the training and then focus on what we would discuss.
The newsletters provided the “common language” for us to communicate when we met the first time.
I did not have time for attending a 3-day seminar. Plus, I had been to seminars and been disappointed due to the extremely diverse knowledge level of the attendees.
It made sense to pay for focused training and not waste time (or be aggravated) in the seminar.
Via the newsletters, I was able to describe specifically what it was that I wanted to cover using Karen’s "language."
When we met, we lost no time and hit it hard.
I always know when the training is intense and good--my head hurts afterwards from all the information it absorbed. It hurt good after our session.
I would recommend Karen's one-on-one training to anyone who is serious about pursuing changing photos to paintings (as I am).
And, I would recommend using the same approach by using the newsletters to determine the scope of the training before the training starts.
It was very effective.
Also, 4 hours of this type of training is all I recommend for 1 day – it is intense.
But the person wanting the training needs to spend a little time doing homework to get ready.
With the demands of my job, I had very little time to prepare. But I spent two hours reviewing all the Tips & Tricks newsletters to determine which ones I was interested in. Then I picked the Top 10 and ordered them. That’s a bit over 300 pages of material. Then I had to find time to review them. I did the night before the training.
I ran through them and slowed down wherever things got real interesting. Time to review about 2 hours. But it paid off, when Karen referred to a particular subject (she knew which newsletters I was looking at) I was able to immediately grasp where she was heading.
Karen hit a couple of points that did not register at first, so discussion time.
This is where the one-on-one pays off.
I told her to stop. I had a question. Stop we did and explored the answer.
Perfect.
Kudos to you, Karen.
